Officer on Duty - Engaging crime thriller

Watched Officer on Duty this weekend on Netflix, and it was absolutely fantastic.

Lately, I’ve found myself becoming addicted to these brilliant Malayalam films. Even though many of them revolve around cops, they still manage to win my admiration with fresh storytelling and solid performances. Office on Duty is no exception—it has now entered my list of favorite films.

Kunchacko Boban breathed life into his role as a police officer. His performance is simply outstanding, especially in some of the key emotional and intense scenes. He plays a character with multiple shades—a father who’s a victim, and a fierce police officer who will go to any lengths to deliver justice. He pulls off both aspects with depth and conviction. I absolutely loved his performance.

Priyamani, despite having a limited role, leaves an impact. She plays the wife of the lead character, and her presence adds emotional weight to the story.

Apart from the lead actors, the ones who truly stand out are the actors who played the members of the drug-addicted gang. Their performances are just as powerful as the lead. Director Jithu Ashraf deserves major credit for extracting such raw and believable performances from them. You actually feel like slapping those characters or hurting them—that’s how convincing they were. Their body language, arrogance, and internal frustration were portrayed with stunning realism.

The film reminded me of Na Peru Shiva starring Karthi, which I watched a long time ago and really liked. Office on Duty gave me a similar feeling—the tension never lets up, and the storytelling keeps you on edge throughout. The director handles the entire film brilliantly, maintaining consistency and engagement from start to finish.

The film also delivers a strong social message: drugs are a serious threat to society, and it’s everyone’s responsibility to work toward a drug-free world. It effectively shows how drug addiction can dehumanize individuals.

One of the biggest challenges for any filmmaker is to maintain logical consistency while keeping the audience engaged. Many directors stumble here and end up inserting forced or illogical scenes. But that’s not the case with Office on Duty. It stays grounded and delivers a powerful, satisfying climax.

Don’t miss this one. It’s absolutely worth your two hours.
