This movie is, without a doubt, one of the best I’ve ever seen. As someone who watches a lot of Hollywood films, IMDB is my go-to site for discovering great movies. When I came across this one and saw the incredible ratings, I was immediately intrigued. As soon as I hit play, I was hooked. Just 10 minutes in, I felt myself transported to an entirely different world, immersed in emotions that words can barely capture. The direction is flawless, supported by natural performances and brilliant writing. Morgan Freeman’s voiceover is an absolute asset, adding a depth that only he can bring. Every aspect of this movie left me in awe.
One scene that truly hit me was the story of the old man who, after spending most of his life in prison, takes his own life when he finds himself unable to adjust to the outside world. The moment he carved his name into the wood before hanging himself was haunting. It made me reflect deeply on what it means to feel isolated, even when surrounded by people. What is it like to be alive, yet feel completely alone? No connections, no relationships, no sense of belonging—born as nobody, and dying as nobody. That scene left me with a lingering sense of melancholy and introspection.
Another unforgettable moment is when the protagonist locks himself in a room and plays music over the prison’s PA system, defying the rules. That entire scene radiates a sense of harmony and serenity, offering a brief escape from the harsh reality of prison life. And when Morgan Freeman’s character is finally released, his journey to find his friend feels like a personal quest for redemption and purpose. Watching it, I felt as though I was on my own journey alongside him, seeking meaning and connection.
This movie is filled with unforgettable moments and powerful emotions. If you haven’t seen it yet, you absolutely must. It’s an experience that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
